Columbia (WLTX) – Columbia police are investigating an officer involved shooting which took place late Wednesday afternoon in Columbia.
The incident took place at a parking garage on Taylor Street across from the Main Post Office on Assembly Street.
Police received two calls about a suspect who was at the top level of the garage.
Officers say when they arrived, the suspect had his hands in his pocket. The suspect was given verbal commands to take his hands out, but instead, he pulled out what’s described as a cutting instrument.
He was asked to drop the weapon, but he did not do so. Officers say when he walked toward them, he was maced several times and struck with a baton. The suspect was also shot with what are describes as non life-threatening injuries.
He was taken to the hospital.
As is customary, the State Law Enforcement Division will investigate the use of force in this case.
Now the reason I posted the story is because damn. Did it’ really take all that to subdue the man.. I don’t even like the way it sounds out loud….

Okay! What is there to investigate! The average mace spray is about a 3 ft mist if that! If it’s a stream I believe it’s suppose to be used at a minimum of about 6 to 8 ft any closer than that the suspect could be blind for life! I’m pretty sure the cutting instrument was dropped well before he got hit with a baton! And he probably got shot after he got hit with the baton as well! So they were close enough to hit him with a baton then they were close enough to subdue him without further injury, I’ll say it was hell of a lot more than excessive force! They probably tazed that muthafucka too! Damn! I could have took him down without all that.
